Business NH Magazine Announces Next Step Orthotics & Prosthetics as Business of the Year in Health Care

MANCHESTER, NH. – Citing the company’s civic contributions and exceptional performance, Business NH Magazine and the NH Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives named Manchester, NH-based Next Step Orthotics & Prosthetics as a “2011 Business of the Year in Health Care.”

A screening committee made up of members of the NH

Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (NHACCE)

pared down the field of applicants to three semifinalists in

each category. From there, a Panel of Excellence with

executives from the 2010 Business of the Decade

winning companies selected this year’s recipients after

careful consideration and debate.  Awards will be presented

at a special luncheon in May.

“We are truly honored to be recognized with such a prestigious

award as it is a testament to the work we do to enable our clients to live happier and more active and fulfilled lives,” said Next Step Orthotics & Prosthetics President Matt Albuquerque. “With one eye on innovation and the other eye on providing personalized attention, we are striving to change the world for the better for all those we serve.”

A privately held company headquartered in Manchester, NH with offices in Newton, MA and Warwick, RI, Next Step Orthotics & Prosthetics provides orthotic and prosthetic devices to clients of all ages – from pediatric to geriatric. The company is practitioner owned and operated, and some staff members are amputees themselves. Known for their innovation, Next Step prosthetists and clinicians work with research facilities and prosthetic manufacturers in developing new prosthetic technologies and components.

Most recently, Next Step has worked with its Manchester Millyard neighbor, DEKA Research and Development Corporation, on a project for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to create an advanced upper body prosthesis for amputee soldiers.

Girl returns home for first time after losing limbs to

illness

LONDONDERRY, N.H. (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston) - A 9-year-old Londonderry girl returned home Sunday for the first time since losing all her limbs to a bacterial infection last Easter.

Bella Tucker was only 8 years old, active in gymnastics and cheerleading, when she was rushed to Boston Children's Hospital with a raging fever. She was diagnosed with Streptococcus Pneumonia Sepsis and fell into a coma. She survived, but doctors had to amputate her arms and legs because of an infection.

Tony Nigro, a project executive for Suffolk Construction, inspired his employer, his colleagues and an entire community to rally to help Bella, who he had never met. His team completed a new accessible home for Bella and her family - doubling the size of the existing home.
